To most people, the words "self defense" conjure up a wide array of violent mental images. People think of boxing matches, karate films and no-holds-barred street fights. In actuality these images completely misrepresent the essence of what self defense really means. To defend oneself does not necessitate an act of violence.
Self defense is a broad category that encompasses a variety of methods and approaches to dealing with an attack. At NBTC BJJ, we embrace all the meanings of the words "self defense" and our teachings reflect this broader approach.
NBTC BJJ does not advocate violence. While in some attack scenarios violence is necessary, NBTC BJJ promotes defense methods that emphasize keeping you safe, which often means deescalating a dangerous situation before an attack can occur.
At NBTC BJJ, we'll teach you all the methods, explore various scenarios and the right way to defend yourself in almost any situation. Our model is to always shy from an altercation but also be prepared for one.

  • NBTC is a great place to learn the art of Brazilian jiu jitsu, whether you've had prior experience or are just starting out. I moved here several months ago and was welcomed by everyone at NBTC. All the instructors are here to help you reach your training goals, whatever they might be. Classes are offered for children as young as four, there's a women's only class once a week, and if your schedule is different, i.e. you're a student or don't work a traditional 9-5 job, in addition to evening classes, there are noon classes and weekend open mats. Swing by or call the gym for more information. Try it out and you'll see that NBTC is the place for you.

  • We decided to try out NBTC last month after calling other jiu-jitsu places in the area and I am very glad we did! I absolutely love it and so does my 11 yr old Son. Coach Carlos takes his time and is very patient and attentive to the children. I love that he doesn't take it too easy on them. I would definitely recommend this establishment for all ages! It's such a good fun sport and I wish I would've started my son ALOT sooner. I really appreciate the respect, discipline, sportsmanship and encouragement that goes with it.
